Refined Oil Products (ROP) was sold to Unilever PLC which purchased
70% of the majority shares for a total consideration of US$4.5 million.
The remaining shares are to be offered to the Zambian individuals through
the public flotation at a later date when the company has moved back to
profitability. Unilever's return to Zambia has seen re-introduction of
internationally reowned brands which include surf, geisha, sunlight, lifebouy,
and stork margarine. Unilever is providing technical and managerial training
to its staff, commensurate with Unilever's international standards.
