The sale of ZSC to
Tate & Lyle has led to Zambian workers, shareholders and consumers
benefitting from the world-class management, marketing and technical leadership
of Tate & Lyle, as well as from the financial agricultural development
capabilities of CDC. Due to its expansion programme (to which over US$100
million has been committed), ZSC has a potential for future expansion from
180,000 to 220,000 tonnes and its exports are expected to rise to 59% from
60,000 to 90,000 tonnes and an increased competitiveness from lower production
costs and greater economies of scale.
