ZAMBIA OXYGEN LIMITED (ZAMOX)
70 % in Zambia Oxygen Limited (Zamox) has been sold
to the South African based African Oxygen Limited ( Afrox ). Zamox is the
major manufacturer and supplier of industrial and medical gases in Zambia
dominating the market for liquid oxygen, nitrogen and liquid carbon dioxide.
Zamox is the prime supplier of medical gases and related equipment to the
hospitals and medical institutions.Its range of gases includesoxygen,acetyene,nitrogen,carbon
dioxide, argon, hydrogen and liquid petroleum gas.Prior to nationalisation
in 1985, Zamox was a wholly owned subsidiary of British Oxygen Company
-the BOC Group- which is also the parent company of Afrox. Zamox will have
access to the BOC worldwide technology , research and development . Afrox
will embark on a capital expenditure programme over the next four years
to upgrade the plant, install new facilities and uplift the engineering
standards and services of Zamox. The remaining 30% will be listed on the
Lusaka Stock Exchange at a future date.
